GoalOur goal is to secure the uninterrupted supply of glass to our customers. In this regard, logistics plays an important role alongside that of production. We offer our customers a proven logistic system. The logistic system consists of three elements:
Our customers benefit from customized solutions which address their requirements.
Security storage
Security storage is an important component of uninterrupted supply. These stores are to be found on the factory premises and are managed by GMB. We store ready-to-dispatch glass on our customers’ behalf on an area of over 30’000 m². The size of the store and, with it, the security of supply is decided by the customer – this is typically one month’s supply. Variations in demand can be regulated with the stored stock. The customer can call up the required amounts at short notice and does not have to maintain its own comprehensive stocks.
Packaging
The glass has to be transported to the customer in perfect condition. A series of packaging types are available for this purpose. The packaging is comprised of the following components:
A defined number of lites are to be found on the glass carrier. The design and stability of the carrier allows for the simple and safe transportation and storage of the glass. Typically, 1.8 tons gross load weight can be reached per unit. We offer our customers with the choice of the following types of glass carriers.
L-rack L-racks of galvanised steel are an environmentally friendly reusable packaging. It produces little, if any, rubbish. The glass stands vertically on a rubber pad. L-rack can be stacked both in loaded and un-loaded state. Unloading by machine is state of the art.
Flatpacks Flatpacks are made from custom-made wooden palettes. Wooden pieces are fitted into the corners and the sides, which fix the glass and enable the flatpacks to be stacked. Depending on their size, 3-4 Flatpacks can be stacked on one another. No other packaging allows such density of storage [m² glass / m² storage area]. It is possible to return the wooden pieces free of charge to protect resources and reduce waste.
Wooden case The wooden case is the most ideal packaging for transporting long distances. The stable wooden case protects the vertically upright glass safely to the customer. Wooden cases can only be stacked on a limited basis and cannot be resealed.
Glass interlayer Glass interlayers have the task of separating the glass lites from one another, in order to prevent mechanical or chemical damage to the surface. A special paper has proven itself as being ideal for the purpose. An alternative is the use of plastic foil. Nylon twine can also be used as glass interlayers with special L-racks. The packaging with twine is especially suited for automated removal of the glass. Protective casing For the purpose of temporary protection against the weather, the glass packaging is wrapped with plastic foil or stamped with a strong plastic foil. Transport safety Plastic or steel straps are applied to fix the glass to the glass carrier in order to provide safety during transportation. Ultimately the customer decides which kind of packaging is appropriate for him. Thanks to our many years of experience, we can support the customer in making this choice. The objective is to delivery the glass at low cost and safely, taking the technical parameters into consideration. DispatchDelivery by lorry is standard within Goods dispatch takes place directly from the storage halls of the factory to the customer. Loading is carried out by trained GMB personnel. Our long term logistic partner OceanTrans is responsible for transportation. |
